Summerfest on the Rio was started in 2001 as a way to promote the San Luis Valley's eclectic arts and crafts community. Since then, the annual festival has been held along the winding Rio Grande each year on the first full weekend of June, a kick-off to summertime in Alamosa's spacious and picturesque Cole Park. The fun begins Friday night with Summerfest's signature Concert in the Park. On Saturday morning, visitors return for delicious food, entertainment, and activities provided by more than 150 vendors and food booths around the park. On Sunday, Summerfest hosts a morning outdoor praise and worship service featuring local Christian bands - a special way to begin a Sunday with neighbors and friends. Summerfest Weekend is jam-packed with live entertainers with something for everyone; rock and roll, bluegrass, jazz, Mariachi bands, country, belly dancers, jugglers and more.

The Early Iron Festival is your chance to see over 500 vintage vehicles painstakingly restored, heavily modified, or gently used. Take in the sunshine and sights as you explore machinery of yesteryear. The rodders encircle Cole Park early Saturday morning looking forward to a day of talking, swapping, and catching up with old friends. Car buffs from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Kansas swarm the park, oohing and aahing, choosing their favorite and trading stories about their first car. After an enjoyable day in the autumn sun, the Early Iron Club hosts a rodders banquet to a capacity crowd of 650. Food and beverages are available the main day of the event throughout the park.
