McQuades Softball Tournament

Annual softball tournament held in Bismarck, ND. The USA's Largest non-profit, single weekend slowpitch softball tournament was founded in 1976 by Sam McQuade Sr. of McQuade Distributing Co., Inc., the local distributor of Budweiser beer. Being a father of a special needs son - Sean, Sam was keenly aware of the financial challenges of local charities and organizations that were involved in helping such less fortunate people. In 1976, the first year of the tournament, Sam and countless volunteers raised over $1,000 and brought 103 teams in 4 divisions to Bismarck-Mandan, ND. The event grew to over 464 teams in 15 divisions and raised over $146,000 in total donations in the year 2019! Today, the tournament is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, including the 3rd generation of McQuades, Shannon McQuade-Ely.

Dakota Zoo

The Dakota Zoo was founded in 1961 by Marc & Betty Christianson with the help of a host of dedicated volunteers. The Dakota Zoo opened its gates on June 3, 1961 on 15 acres of developed land, with 75 mammals and 23 birds, and 40,000 visitors passed through the gates that first year. Today, thanks to the continued support of members, visitors, donors and volunteers, the Dakota Zoo has grown to a 90 acre facility housing 600 mammals, birds, reptiles and fish representing 125 species and is visited by more than 150,000 people each year.

Super Slide Amusement Park

International Powwow

The United Tribes Technical College International Powwow is held every year the weekend after Labor Day weekend in September. This is a contest powwow, where dancers and singers compete for prize money. Judges selected by the Head Dance Judges will evaluate a dancer's performance based on knowledge and skill of their category; keeping time with the drum; and regalia. The UTTC International Powwow is one of the last large outdoor events on the northern Great Plains powwow circuit. For that reason, this annual event is known as the Home of the Champions.
