Hot Springs/ Black Hill KOA Holiday is a family-friendly campground in Hot Springs that gives you a perfect starting point to explore the Black Hills. Our campground is right off U.S. Highway 79, putting you in a great position to visit local attractions. Spend the day outside by visiting Custer State Park for hiking, biking, fishing, seeing the buffalo and other local wildlife or horseback riding. If you want to experience more thrills or take some time to cool off, visit Windcave National Park. You and your family can also spend time in the natural hot springs of Cascade Falls, visit Evans Plunge or go for a tour of the Mammoth Site, where you can tour the indoor active dig site and view Ice Age fossils. The Mammoth Site offers self-guided tours, enhanced educational experience, Summer Educational Programs, space and science activities and stay active with an indoor ropes course and laser tag.

If you want to experience the Black Hills, our campground is open April 1-October 31. We have many campsites you can explore, whether you prefer glamping or traditional camping. Bring your RV to set up at an RV Site with a convenient KOA Patio™. If you have pets, you can bring them with you! Our large dog park is a fenced area so your pets can run around safely. We have pull-thru and back-in RV Sites and can accommodate rigs of all sizes. We also have several lodging options for those who enjoy camping without an RV. Our Deluxe Cabins and Camping Cabins let you choose between luxurious and classic camping to suit your preferences. The Deluxe Cabins have full baths, partial kitchens and a KOA Patio™ to provide the utmost comfort. Our Camping Cabins offer a more traditional camping experience, by not having a kitchen or bathroom. If you want to go back to basics, set up at one of our Tent Sites. The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the most popular organized hike in the United States (15,000 walkers in a record year). This family event is sponsored by the Black Hills Chapter of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) and hosted by Crazy Horse Memorial®Hikers follow dirt trails and gravel work roads up to the Crazy Horse Mountain Carving. The turn-around point is on the Arm of Crazy Horse directly in front of the nine-story-high face, which was completed June 3, 1998. Hikers get an up-close view of the mountain. Work continues on the rest of what will be the largest sculpture in the world.The Laughing Water Restaurant at Crazy Horse opens for breakfast at 6 a.m. during the Volksmarch, and serves lunch and dinner. The snack shop also is open. Coffee is always free at Crazy Horse Memorial®.
38TH ANNUAL SPRING VOLKSMARCH - JUNE 1, 2024 - ONLY DAY IN JUNE - SATURDAYThe bi-annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch (an organized hike) is a 10K or 6.2-mile woodlands ramble to the world's largest mountain carving in progress in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota. The Spring Volksmarch in 2024 will only be the first Saturday of June.
CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL WELCOME CENTERBefore or after your hike, don't miss the short introductory movie "What is Crazy Horse?" playing in the twin theaters in the Welcome Center. Also be sure to see THE INDIAN MUSEM OF NORTH AMERICA®, Sculptor's Studio / Home Workshop and THE NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL CENTER®.
COSTAdmission for hikers will be waived with 3 cans of food for the Fall Volksmarch. The American Volkssport Association's hike fee is $3 (cash or check, no credit cards accepted) for each participant regardless of age. Regular admission applies to non-hikers or hikers without food.PARKINGFREE. Due to the popularity of the event, parking can be some distance from the starting point and not on paved or gravel surfaces. Shuttle buses operate between these outlying parking lots and the start-finish area.
REGISTRATIONNo advance registration. Hikers must check in at starting point, which is at the Memorial's upper parking area. Registration will begin at 7:00 am. Hikers must register before 1 p.m. and be off the trail by 4 p.m. No late starts.STARTING TIMES:Anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Feel the thunder at the 59th Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup on Friday, September 27, 2024. Watch cowboys, cowgirls and park rangers as they round up and drive the herd of approximately 1,300 buffalo. Be sure to plan for plenty of time at the three-day Arts Festival, September 26-28, where more than 100 vendors will offer fine arts and crafts and South Dakota made products. (On Friday, parking lots open at 6:15 a.m. Early arrival is recommended.) There is no admission to the Roundup or the Arts Festival, but a park entrance license is required September 26 and 28 (it is not required September 27).

We understand that sometimes you need to alter or cancel your plans, and we want to accommodate those circumstances that may be out of your control. We are happy to refund your deposit, minus a $15 rebooking fee if you cancel with at least 48 hours or more before your reservation.
Our staff offers a courtesy call to remind you of your upcoming stay in case you need to make any adjustments. After the 48 hour window, the deposit becomes non-refundable.
If you cancel within the 48 hour window, you will be charged up to a 2 night stay but never to exceed your total reserved number of nights.
No-show Policy: At close of business on the day of your reservation, you will be charged for your full stay if you have not already arrived. Your stay information will be included in our night box, and if you have not yet arrived by opening the next morning, your reservation will be canceled, with a refund of everything over a 2 night stay. For example: If you booked 1-2 nights and did not arrive, you will not receive a refund. If you booked 3+ nights, you will receive a refund for nights 3 and beyond.
