Lake Placid Horse Shows

Come experience two of the nation's most prominent equestrian events and watch as world-class riders and horses vie for more than $550,000 in prize money and awards in championship Hunter and Jumper competitions.The action begins at 8 a.m. each show day, with classes running simultaneously in five separate rings until approximately 5 p.m.

Ironman Lake Placid

On July 21, 2024, athletes from around the world will descend on the alpine village of Lake Placid to test their limits in Ironman Lake Placid. A favorite among competitors, the Lake Placid Ironman is the second oldest Ironman in North America and one of the sport's most popular courses. The highly anticipated race begins with the swimmers entering the water at 6:30 a.m. for a 2.4-mile swim across beautiful Mirror Lake, followed by a demanding 112-mile bike leg through the Adirondack Mountains, and ends with a full marathon through the mountains and downtown that end at the Olympic speed skating oval in the village of Lake Placid.

Annual Festival of Color

The event features numerous local artists, farmers, bakers, crafters, and more. The day kicks off with a live children's comedy routine performed by our favorite clown and her assistants. Then make way for live music. Other items throughout the day include arts demonstrations, food vendors, and many children's activities.

Lake Placid Ice Dance Championship

OVERVIEWJuly 27 – 31, 2024The Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships is pleased to be part of US Figure Skating's National Qualifying Series and Solo Dance Series.  It is hosted by the NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority and sanctioned by US Figure Skating through the Skating Club of Lake Placid.  The Lake Placid Ice Dance International is an international event on the ISU calendar.The Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships is the oldest ice dance event in world.Couples ice dance events are offered at all levels from pre-juvenile through senior.  The international event will offer junior and senior levels.  Solo dance events will be offered at all levels from preliminary through senior.

Annual Lighting of NYS Fire Towers

Commencing in 2014, the Fire Tower Illumination marks the onset of a statewide tradition. Its inception lies in the desire to extend the glow on the horizon to distant observers, inviting them to reflect upon and honor an era when fire rangers vigilantly manned the watchtowers, safeguarding both the community and the encompassing woodlands.Numerous fire towers nestled in the Adirondacks region will once again partake in the annual, synchronized illumination of these iconic structures. Marking the milestone of the 10th annual occurrence, a group of dedicated volunteers will light up the fire towers on the evening of Saturday, August 31, precisely between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.In celebration of a decade since the inception of this meaningful tradition - a reading of the names of those who once served in the towers will accompany the illumination ceremony.Please remember this is not a hiking event! This event is tailored for individuals to view from a distance, gazing upward and reflecting as they witness the radiant light emanating from the fire tower.

NYS Free Fishing Day - National Hunting and Fishing Day

Free fishing days offer residents and non-residents who are 16 and older* to fish without a freshwater fishing license (*Kids under 16 can always fish for free!).
These days offer the perfect opportunity to try out fishing for the first time, to get back into the sport, or to take a friend or the whole family along to fish! Even though a license is not needed, all other fishing regulations apply.

Ausable River Two-Fly Challenge

KOA is proud to be a sponsor for the Ausable River Two-Fly Challenge.The Ausable River Two-Fly Challenge was founded to celebrate the joy of fishing, the spirit of sportsmanship, the preservation of the Ausable River, and natural wonders of the Whiteface Region. Here is a brief look at what to expect this year:Thursday evening kicks off with Beer, Band and Bonfires at the Town Beach. Featuring live music and local food trucks. A night to feel the local flavor while relaxing by the Ausable and catching up with old friends. Friday morning is a day of awesome fishing the West Branch of the Ausable followed by the Fly Tyer's Reception at Twisted Raven. At the event you will get to grab some grub, enjoy some local music and tell you tales of the day while learning new techniques from our talented tyers. Saturday starts out with another great day on the water with another shot at getting your prized trout. The evening concludes with the Annual Two-Fly Banquet. This year's banquet will be held at the Hungry Trout where we will have raffles and prizes!The 411Rules for the catch-and-release tournament are simple: anglers are allowed to bring two barb-less hook flies of any combination or patterns. Once the flies are lost or unusable, he or she is out. Anglers must fish with a partner and each must record the total number of fish caught, the length of each fish, and the cumulative number of inches. Only fish handled by the angler and successfully released will count as caught fish. The winner is determined by the highest cumulative length of each fish caught. Each fisherman can choose just two flies to user per day. They must pick their flies they will use at the beginning of the day. If the lose them, they are done. Official rules are sent with registration confirmations.

Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race

Not a biker? Sign up for the Uphill Foot Race!Race Details

• The race starts in the middle of Wilmington at the Visitors Bureau, 5753 NYS RT 86 Wilmington NY.
  
• Packet pick-up and parking will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Preston Festival Field, 1135 Springfield Road, Wilmington, NY (just around the corner from the starting line).
  
• Packet will include your bib, t-shirt and meal voucher.
  
• There will be a bag drop vehicle at the starting line if you desire a change of clothes for the top. Please make sure you have your name and phone number on or in the bag.
  
• We use a timing mat and do a rolling start instead of a mass start. You will get a timing chip with your bib.
  
• If you don't feel comfortable riding your bike back down, you may have someone meet you at the top. We will sell spectator passes at registration. These are cash only and a per person price.

• Each participant is responsible for their own transportation down the mountain at the close of the race. Riding back down is at your own risk, following pacing marshals. A minimum of two brakes is required.
  
• Bug repellent and warm clothing for the summit are recommended.
  
• Entrants are responsible for their own fluid needs during the race. No aid stations will be provided along the route. Fruit, snacks, and beverages will be served at the finish line. A meal voucher for local restaurants will be provided as a post race meal option. This is included in the race fee.

• Packet will include your bib, t-shirt and meal voucher.
  
• There will be a bag drop vehicle at the starting line if you desire a change of clothes for the top. Please make sure you have your name and phone number on or in the bag.
  
• You may have someone meet you at the top. We will sell spectator passes at registration. These are cash only and a per person price. We will also have limited shuttle service for those who don't have a support vehicle for their descent down the mountain. If you will need to use this service, please indicate this on your registration.
