Come see and ride the first fully hand-carved carousel to be built in America since the Great Depression. Thirty-eight wooden horses await riders. Two chariots are available for handicapped riders, and others preferring a smoother ride. The horses and chariots ride on a 1918 carousel frame, lovingly restored and maintained by a volunteer mechanical crew. They revolve around artist panels depicting many of the local artists who created A Carousel for Missoula. The outside row of horses travel at 8 miles per hour, making this one of the fastest carousels in the country. A Carousel for Missoula is the home for the largest band organ in continuous use in the United States. It has over 400 pipes which duplicate the sounds of 23 instruments and 45 musicians.
