No one can visit Mitchell without seeing The World's Only Corn Palace. Established in 1892 and at its present location since 1921, the structure is stripped each year and decorated anew with murals formed by thousands of bushels of corn, grasses, grains, and other products celebrating South Dakota's bounty. The Corn Palace is mentioned in the book "1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die". Mitchell has an indoor recreation center and an outdoor aquatic center to cool off on those hot summer days. At the Dakota Discovery Museum, you will be able to learn about the lives of the Plains Indians, the Fur Trade, Dakota Territory, Railroading, Farming & Ranching, and the 1930s Great Depression. There is also an art gallery with displays from various artists. Be sure to stop by Cabela's, which is just minutes away and conveniently located off I-90 at exit 332. Return to our comfortable campground with Tent Sites, Camping Cabins, and RV Sites with a variety of lengths up to 80 feet long. We offer free mini-golf, bike rentals, a new playground clubhouse with three towers, various yard games & ice cream treats to keep kids big and small happy. Be sure to stop into the general store where you will find a variety of RV supplies, drinks, ice, snacks & souvenirs. After a stay here, you'll be rested and ready for the road. Max pull through is 80 feet.

Taking place in Mitchell, SD, every year since 1971, (with the exception of 2020 due to the Covid pandemic) the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo has served as a cultural icon in the state by blending traditional rodeo events with facets of contemporary life. Sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the four-day annual event attracts over 12,000 rodeo fans from across the United States each year. The rodeo's contestants, from all over the United States and Canada, participate in such events as bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. In addition to the rodeo contests, there is western music, a rodeo queen competition, parade & chili cook-off, rodeo mixer, and mutton bustin'.
Each year on Thursday, The Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Committee, with the help of the local sheriff, ventures out onto I-90 Interstate to find some unsuspecting tourist to present a gift package! Once they decide on a vehicle, they proceed to pull them over, flashing lights and all, to present them with the gift package.
See the event website for event schedules and ticket information. The Mitchell Rodeo Grounds are approximately 10 miles from the Mitchell KOA.
