Burning of the Zozobra

101st Annual Zozobra Event!  The burning of the Zozobra (aka Old Man of Gloom), a 50 ft tall marionette is presented every year by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe.  One of Santa Fe's unique cultural traditions began in 1924, when artist Will Shuster conceived of a giant "Old Man Gloom" effigy stuffed with people's written hardships of the previous year.  The 50 foot tall papier-mache puppet is torched annually after a ceremony of fire dancing and music.  This powerfully symbolizes the purging of undesirable experiences of the people in attendance.   Event occurs at Fort Marcy Park, 4pm - 11pm, on Friday, August 29th.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  Make your reservations early!  The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the biggest and best gathering of balloons anywhere on this planet - and best of all, you can be part of it!  For nine days every October, the crisp, clear desert skies are painted with a kaleidoscope of color as hundreds of balloons lift off from Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park.  It is an amazingly diverse event that brings together huge numbers of balloons and pilots from all over the world.  Don't miss it!

Rodeo De Sante Fe Pro Rodeo

Rodeo de Santa Fe is fun for the whole family!  The Mutton Bustin' and youth barrel racers continue to be a crowd favorite along with all of the pro rodeo events.  Not to mention the carnival midway, concessions, vendors, a beer garden, and more.  The Rodeo de Santa Fe began in 1949 when Roy Butler, Austin “Slim” Green, Gene Petchesky, Paul Ragle, Paul Rutledge and few others had a dream and determination to organize a professional rodeo in Santa Fe, NM. This dream exceeded their ambitious expectations and today remains one of the top 60 PRCA Rodeos in the nation.This is a rain or shine event.
