The Skowhegan State Fair is an annual agricultural fair that runs for 10 days every August in Skowhegan. It was first established in 1819 under the name Somerset Central Agricultural Society and is recognized as the oldest continuously running agricultural fair in the United States. The fair celebrates Maine's farming heritage with livestock shows, agricultural competitions, harness racing, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, carnival rides, live entertainment and classic fair food. It's a lively community tradition that blends historic rural roots with family-friendly fun. Be sure to check out their website for more information.
Starts: 09/25/2026 - Ends: 09/27/2026
The Common Ground Country Fair is an annual three-day agricultural and rural living celebration held each September at the Common Ground Education Center in Unity. Organized by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, it brings together thousands of visitors and more than 1,000 exhibitors to showcase organic farming, sustainable living, local food, traditional crafts, demonstrations, workshops, music, livestock exhibits, and community activities. The fair emphasizes vibrant rural communities, environmental stewardship, and farm-to-table living rather than traditional carnival rides or midway attractions.
