Beach Driving Season

Beach driving season in a national park at the North Carolina Outer Banks begins mid March and runs through December 31st. Off-road driving is allowed year-round at Cape Hatteras National Seashore but there are limits at Cape Lookout National Seashore. A permit is required and more information can be found at the National Park Service website.

Fireworks at the Avon Fishing Pier on Hatteras Island, North Carolina, take place every Independence Day. The annual 4th of July Celebration features a spectacular free display lighting up the night sky over the Atlantic Ocean at 9:15 PM.

- The Experience: It is the only fireworks show on Hatteras Island, drawing both locals and visitors for an unforgettable evening by the water. The display typically lasts about 20 minutes.
- Best Viewing: You can view the show from virtually anywhere along the wide Avon beaches.
