Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival

Watch the annual Buffalo Roundup at Custer State Park, an all-day event where participants can watch cowboys and cowgirls round up and herd approximately 1,300 buffalo. This spectacle is sure to impress, and provides insight into one of the critical management tools for maintaining a strong and healthy heard. Stick around to see 150 local vendors with south Dakota-made fine arts and crafts for sale.

4th of July Celebration and "Experience Hill City" Day

Bring your festive attire to celebrate Hill City's hometown Star Spangled Parade down Main Street at 10am on July 4th. Enjoy breakfast and lunch at Hill City Center and at any of the fantastic restaurants. Then head for a free old-fashioned Ice Cream and Pie Social at the Hill City Visitor Information Center with a performance of the Shrine of Democracy Chorus followed by the Carson Brown Band.
The festivities don't end with July 4th, because July 5th is “Experience Hill City Day!” A two-day Star Spangled Craft Fair will be held Sat.-Sun.

39th Biannual Volksmarch at Crazy Horse Memorial

Lace up your Hiking Boots for the chance to see Crazy Horse eye to eye! The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the most popular organized hike in the United States. This biannual 6.2-mile hike takes place on June 7th and September 28th, offering visitors a unique way to experience the world's largest mountain carving in progress, which is typically only available through the special Face-to-Face Tour. Each Volksmarch trail is different, providing a new perspective for first-timers and returning hikers alike. Catch the panoramic views from the top of Crazy Horse's arm and stand next to the world's largest thumbnail. This is an experience you won't forget!
Get an early start to the trails to avoid heavier trail traffic as the morning progresses.
Registration is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and hikers need to be off the trail by 4pm.
The event starts at 8 a.m. for all ages of hikers with a $4 hike fee per person. (Regular Crazy Horse Memorial admission can be waved by donating three cans of food.)

Annual Hill City Lions Club Duck Race

Come out and join the Hill City Lions Club for a fun-filled day of music, shopping, games, and food. Our Annual Rubber Duck Race is being held at Memorial Park in Hill City August 31. We will have over 30 crafters/consultants, food trucks, carnival games, a pie eating contest, fun for the kiddos, and our duck race, plus–there's music, too! Ducks will be dropped in the creek at the park at 3:30 and will float to the finish line further down the creek to the other end of the park. Ducks will be available the day of the event. So come out and join us for some fun!

Deadwood Trolley on the Trail

Join the Trolley on the Trail for a narrated ride and guided tour of the Mickelson Trail, running from Englewood to Rochford. It will take place on July 2 and September 10, from 1 pm to 3:30 pm. Participants should gather at the Sherman Street parking lot by 12:30 pm.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning, it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.
