Thank you for your interest in staying with St. Ignace / Mackinac Island KOA!
For the 2023 season, we've added an additional Deluxe Cabin, Glamping tents, a Jumping Pillow and a Basketball (half)court. There will be no pool, as that area has been converted into a recreation space with exciting amenities.
Located at the Straits of Mackinac, where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron converge, St. Ignace/Mackinac Island KOA provides a terrific north-woods basecamp. This waterfront town is the gateway to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, a swath of pristine forests and jeweled lakes. Travel through the gorgeous Upper peninsula and visit Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Point, Soo Locks, Shipwreck Museum and Pictured Rocks. There is so much more for you to explore in this pristine landscape.
Take advantage of the free shuttle from our KOA to the ferry docks that takes you to gorgeous Mackinac Island, where bicycles and horse and buggies are the only forms of transportation. Families love the area's beaches, lighthouse tours and state historic parks, complete with 18th-century forts and costumed interpreters. Buy your FERRY tickets at DISCOUNTED rates at our store. You pay less at our store than buying at the dock or online from the Ferry companies. Avoid long lines at the ferry - you can buy Shepler's or Mackinac Island Ferry Company's (Starline) ferry tickets at our store, AND also use the FREE shuttle to the ferry.
Once you are ready to go, you can call the shuttle service number or inform our front desk and we will be happy to schedule it for you.
Check out our new Glamping tents for the 2023 season. They're so cool!
We currently offer the following activities:
Starts: 05/24/2024 - Ends: 05/25/2024
The Scream N' Rebels Ceremonial Flyover: The Scream N' Rebels will perform their ceremonial flyover over downtown St. Ignace on Saturday, May 25, at 12 noon. Stop at the Museum of Ojibwa Culture for commentary on the significance of each formation, including the “Missing Man” formation, which honors our country's fallen heroes. After the flyover, the Museum of Ojibwa Culture will begin its Native American festival, including the Color Guard.
The Scream N' Rebels is a vintage warbird squadron preserving history and performing ceremonial flyovers honoring the men and women who have fought and fallen for our country, along with those who built these aircraft. Our mission is to keep their story alive. For more than 6 decades after its design in 1937, the North American AT-6 Texans were used throughout the world as advanced trainers and artillery spotters in Korea, Vietnam, and other theaters. The North American Aviation T-6 Texan was a single-engine advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army, Air Forces, United States Navy, Royal Air Force, and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during WWII and the 1950s. One of our squadron aircraft is located at the Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum in Detroit, once used by the celebrated all-Black “Red Tails” aviation unit. Our lead ship is a BT-13 Valiant, similar to a Texan built by Vultee.
Starts: 05/25/2024 - Ends: 05/25/2024
The Annual Native American Festival will be held on May 25th, 2024, at the Museum of Ojibwa Culture in St. Ignace, Michigan. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the rich culture and contributions of the Anishinaabe people from the area. At its idyllic location close to the shores of Lake Huron, the Festival shines with amazing energy, pride and excitement in the drummers, dancers, workshop presenters, visitors and supporters who attend the Festival each year. The Festival is committed to focusing on the creative and traditional spirit of the Anishinaabe people and helping to preserve and revitalize their arts and culture while inspiring them to take pride in their heritage and community. Celebrating a heritage that is rich in diversity and creativity, St. Ignace's Annual Native American Festival promises to be a thrill for the senses. Hear the sounds of drums, see the expressive dances, and taste the traditions that were literally hundreds of years in the making – all at this one incredible event. The smell of sacred medicines and the feel of birch bark, porcupine quills and other materials used for both function and artistry are also part of the experience. The event is held on the grounds of the Museum of Ojibwa Culture and festival activities are free to all visitors.“Everyone is welcome to come and experience the rich traditions and culture of the Anishinaabe people. It is an honor and a privilege to host this annual event that spotlights an important part of our history through the eyes of the First People who inhabited this area”, said Shirley Sorrels, Museum Director. “We are proud to recognize the important contribution the Anishinaabe people make to enrich our museum and inform us about the Native American experience of past generations.”
